President cites Chinese officials’ inaccurate reporting as reason for departure.
President Trump’s Administration announced on Wednesday that it would be withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO) in the summer of 2021. The formal notification to the UN of this decision comes after months of President Trump criticizing the WHO for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic by not getting accurate data from the Chinese government.
President Trump vowed to remove the nation from the WHO in May, stating that Chinese officials “ignored” their obligations to report accurately. He determined that the U.S. would not financially support a system that led to a delay in preventative action. As the withdrawal would take place after the 2020 national election, presidential candidate Joe Biden has pledged to reverse the decision if elected.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That God would use the president’s administration to preserve the health of Americans.
- For the U.S. as we partner with foreign nations to stop the spread of COVID-19.
- For President Trump to have wisdom on the best way to conduct diplomacy.
